The pillars of our services

Kris Van Thillo (ABIS) - 29th July 2011

Abstract:

As a service company, the way of working of ABIS is based on some fundamental values. These pillars are briefly explained in this article.

Return On Education (ROE)

At ABIS, we don't just pay lip service to quality! If you ever followed one of our courses, you've had the opportunity to determine this yourself. Indeed, our courses offer an exceptional price/quality ratio. One can see this as our "Unique Selling Point", or even our "Return On Education (ROE)". The quality of our service is based on the following key pillars.

Didactic and technical quality of our teachers

As a professional training institute, we pay much attention to the educational and technical training and education of our teachers. All our employees have extensive technical and practical knowledge, and their affinity for didactics and pedagogy offers them the possibility to transfer that knowledge efficiently in a motivating, clear and consise way. Depending on the audience and the objective of a course, a specific combination of didactic and technical depth is required - our employees have both!

  • teachers with technical depth and experience
  • teachers with teaching skills

Course material

Course material is only effective when it meets a number of criteria. It should be useful as a guide during the lectures of a teacher; it must support the teaching methods used by the instructor; afterwards it must be usable as a reference manual (knowledge storage!); it should be simple, relevant and "to the point". Therefore, we use course materials developed and updated by our own teachers, compiled from their concrete experiences. This material is practically applicable, concrete and relevant, with no unnecessary ballast.

Course material is multi-purpose:

  • guide during the presentations
  • supports the chosen (didactic) learning method
  • simple, relevant, 'to the point'
  • manual and reference

A vision on training

In order to ensure optimum knowledge transfer, we have developped our own vision on training and knowledge transfer. A vision where pedagogy, technical depth, fellow students and organisation are central! All the courses we offer are a reflection of this vision.

  • training takes a didactic approach
  • training requires fellow students and an inspiring teacher
  • training demands a stimulating, critical approach

Core business

Training and knowledge transfer is not something of second rank; it is not a "derived" service to support another "business". Efficient training is our core business! Efficient training requires employees whom are - as far as it concerns the organisation and structure, as well as the actual contents of a course - experts in their fields: staff with technical knowledge, knowledge of learning processes, with experience regarding the development of courses and learning projects. The result: a quality that is reflected in the whole business: a neat and punctual administrative handling of tenders, quick and adequate response to questions from customers, and a flexible range of courses depending on the question.

Training is core business, with impact on all business processes:

  • administration and organisation
  • handling registrations and tenders
  • reaction and advice to questions from the customer
  • flexibility: supply and demand

Scope and orientation

Right from our inception, we have always based ourselves on the needs of the professional computer specialist as a starting point in developing training materials. To be more specific, a computer specialist who builds mission-critical application systems and needs to maintain often highly complex environments. Reliability, safety, availability and effectiveness are then the key. And of course, a computer engineer who must understand background and context to cope with rapid and complex technological developments. Hence, even today, our focus on the demands made by "Enterprise-Based Computing" and integration.

  • aimed at professional computer scientist
  • critical business applications on complex infrastructures
  • reliability, safety, efficacy and availability are key.
