Oracle backup and recovery
In this 2-day classroom ABIS course, the alternative backup, recovery and restore options offered by the Oracle RMAN tool are thoroughly discussed and practically practiced. Useful for anyone responsible for developing and implementing backup/recovery scenarios. Prior knowledge of SQL, and basic knowledge of Oracle databases, is recommended.
This course focuses on the backup and recovery facilities offered by the Oracle database. After a brief introduction discussing logging and archiving, we provide a detailed overview of the Oracle backup and recovery tool RMAN. Following a brief description of the tool's architecture, we discuss the various backup and recovery scenarios supported by this tool. Of course, correct backup and recovery scenarios are demonstrated and elaborated on the basis of a number of concrete cases. At the end of the course, the student is able to write a suitable recovery scenario for the most important disasters!
This course:
- discusses Oracle database logging and archiving;
- introduces RMAN: architecture, tool, usage;
- discusses the alternative backup scenarios supported by the tool;
- discusses the restore/recovery possibilities - among other things in function of the selected backup scenarios;
- maps the most important 'types' of 'disasters', and how to deal with them in practice.
